Happy Birthday, Mom

I was able to do something I had been trying to do for over 20 years.

surprise my mother on her birthday. Being separated by 1,300 miles, it is not always easy trying to find out what she really needs, or wants.

This time I recruited my cousin, to do the leg work. It was a surprise dinner on me.

Now, I don’t know I can top that next year.

Be ready.

this weekend a friend of my “Lee Green” referred someone to me who writes for a popular magazine.

At least from my point of view the interview about widgets, really it was about widgets, went well.
But, what I am really excited about is that a couple of things I said actually made sense to him. I invited him to use me as a resource. Even if it would not immediately give me credit. In this way I hope to build a relationship that proves to be a win, win for all involved.

I encourage you to build relationships, with writer, reports, etc. And this is not some big revelation that I came up with. It is just the first big contact with a major magazine that I have had.

Why you should own your own domain name.

Whenever, I begin to speak on how to take advantage of the internet for your business, I always include the fact that you should own your own name as a domain. For example I own www.kelvinbrown.com

For less than $10 a year in registration fees, I consider this of the highest priority, even if you do not own a business. It is not important that you use the domain, but what is important is that you have the ability to control usage of the name. For example there are a few other people named ‘Kelvin Brown’, online. There are many more offline. However, here is the tricky part, even though they personally may not have a website, others are likely to mention their names.

For example, there was a college basketball player, that got into a little trouble, his name was, Kelvin Brown. He was mentioned online by several news organizations and bloggers. It just happened that people curious about that event started looking for him online, inevitably, they found www.KelvinBrown.com, which I controlled. And because I controlled it, I could edit it to let them know, that they found the wrong site.

Getting out of the house

I am just catching up on some blog post.

Some really interesting things have changed, since I have made other changes in my personal life.
Yesterday, for the first time in a long time, a business associate, who has become a friend invited me to just hang out with a group of friends.

Something, I have not done in a long, long, time. Well, surprisingly, I had a great time, and had to leave all to early.

Warriors are meeting in Austin, Texas

In April, The Internet Marketing Warriors will be at the first Warrior sponsored event in Austin, Texas.

It should be fun to meet new faces and place with old names, as well as to see old friends. My friend and Internet business mentor, Willie Crawford will also be attending as a speaker.

Moving across town

Okay, it is finally happening. I have just moved a few things to the new apartment. I am moving across town. I am still in DC, although, the very edge of south east DC.

Denise Rolark Barnes - Living Legend

A friend of my received a special honor today. While she is still among the living to enjoy it, she received a living legend award for all the community work she has done to this point.

She publishes the Washington Informer, a Black weekly paper here in Washington, DC.
She is a community activist, she has a TV show, and in general just helps people.

It’s in her blood.

Congratulations, Denise.

Started the next 6 week session of classes at DCTV on the way to becoming a certified producer at DCTV.

Today, we went over the basics of the equipment used in a real production studio. The lighting, multiple cameras and the set.
